THE PERSON WHO ISSUED THE DEATH ORDER HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED While the investigation into the murder of lawyer Serdar Öktem continues, a striking detail has emerged regarding the incident. It was learned that the order for Öktem's murder was given to S.Ö. by the leaders of the gang who are currently fugitives abroad.
WHAT HAPPENED? Lawyer Serdar Öktem was shot while waiting in traffic on Büyükdere Street towards the 15 July Martyrs Bridge in Şişli on October 6, and he died in the hospital to which he was taken by ambulance after being seriously injured. During the police investigation at the scene, numerous empty cartridges belonging to handguns and long-barreled weapons were found.
In a statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that "According to the statements of eyewitnesses and the camera footage detection studies, based on the tracking conducted by the law enforcement, one suspect who was determined to have assisted in the escape of those who carried out the incident has been captured along with 5 suspects who were understood to have committed the act. Two of the suspects are under 18 years old."
It was reported that the suspects were caught around the Arnavutköy district, and during the search conducted by the security forces, 4 weapons, including 2 Kalashnikovs and 2 handguns, as well as items such as a ski mask and gloves were seized. The statement included the following: "According to initial determinations, the act is assessed to have been carried out as a result of a grudge held by an organized crime group against the victim. The investigation into the incident will continue to be deepened by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau, including determining the instigators and whether the organized crime group was used as a contractor in the incident."
In a later statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that in ongoing efforts related to the attack, 7 more individuals who were found to have connections with the suspects who carried out the act and were considered to have relationships with the assassination were detained, and it was noted that 2 of the suspects were under 18 years old.
AUTOPSY REPORT In the preliminary autopsy report of the Forensic Medicine Institution, it was stated that at least one of the injuries to Öktem's head and face, as well as at least one of the injuries to his left arm, was individually lethal. The report indicated that Öktem's death was due to "skull and facial bone fractures caused by gunshot wounds, along with brain hemorrhage, brain tissue destruction, and internal and external bleeding resulting from major vessel injury."
