Plasencia had accepted four separate charges related to illegally supplying and distributing ketamine in July 2025. The prosecution emphasized that the doctor created "a deadly risk for commercial gain" by providing high amounts of ketamine despite knowing about Perry's addiction history.

According to court records, Plasencia obtained ketamine from another doctor to sell to Perry; he personally administered some injections while teaching the actor's assistant how to do others. One of the details that drew outrage in the case was the doctor's correspondence, in which he referred to Perry as "I wonder how much this moron will pay."
Although prosecutors requested at least 3 years in prison, the court decided on a 30-month sentence, and Plasencia was sent directly to jail after the hearing.
