In the Gebze district of Kocaeli, a dispute arose between actor Mehmet Akif Akdeniz (25) and a driver due to the compression caused by an excavation truck. During the ensuing fight, Akdeniz was assaulted by the driver and three individuals who got out of the vehicle. Akdeniz, who was taken to the hospital, stated, "If other truck drivers and truckers hadn't stopped to intervene; they would have probably beaten me to death."
THE FAMOUS ACTOR WAS BEATEN UP
The incident occurred around 10:00 AM in the Sultan Orhan neighborhood of the TEM Highway in Gebze. The driver, heading towards Ankara, allegedly squeezed the vehicle of actor Mehmet Akif Akdeniz, which had the license plate 34 KKA 809, with the excavation truck bearing the license plate 41 ANR 084. The driver then swerved the truck in front of Akdeniz's car. When Akdeniz said he would file a complaint, the driver and three individuals who got out of the truck assaulted him.
As bystanders intervened, the parties were separated, and police and medical teams were dispatched to the area upon notification. Injured Akdeniz was taken to Gebze Fatih State Hospital by ambulance. After the complaint, the police detained the suspects.
"HE STARTED TO WEAVE IN AND OUT"
Mehmet Akif Akdeniz, who was treated in the hospital, recounted his experience. Akdeniz said: "While I was driving towards Gebze, the excavation truck was going at 130. It probably swerved in front of me. At first, I didn't say anything, then I passed it. Continuing, it moved to the right lane. It started weaving in and out. When the car in the right lane suddenly slowed down, it swerved back in front of me again. This time I honked the horn because it was almost squeezing me against the barriers.
After that, I tried to record it on video, but I couldn't manage it. I was trying this for the first time. After he saw that I was recording, he honked the horn even more and got really close to me. I was going 120, and he was right on my tail at 120. Then I stuck my hand out of the window and said, 'I will report you, I will file a complaint.' He started signaling for me to move to the right. When he got really close, I swerved to the right."
"HE STARTED HITTING ME IN THE FACE AND ALL OVER"
Akdeniz stated, "After stopping in the emergency lane, I told him that I would report him, that I had reported him to the General Directorate of Security's complaint system, and that I had taken his photo and video. He then said to me, 'I have already been to prison because of people like you who record me and post it,' and he started coming at me. I pushed him away with my hand, and then he started punching me. I tried to defend myself, but four people got out of the truck, which should have had two people. Four people got out, threw me to the ground, and started kicking and punching me in the neck, head, face, and everywhere. If other truck drivers and truckers hadn't stopped to intervene; they would have probably beaten me to death. They continued to hit me until I got in the car and locked the door," he said.
"MY RIGHT EYE IS BLURRY"
Mehmet Akif Akdeniz, who stated that he filed a complaint, said, "I called the police and the ambulance. I waited in the car until the police arrived. Right now, my neck hurts a lot. They will check if there are any fractures. My right eye is blurry. I have cuts on my eyebrow and forehead. Because they dragged me on the ground, I have asphalt marks on my knees and arms. I wanted to warn about these types of excavation trucks because they constantly drive fast, their brakes fail, and they cause accidents leading to people's deaths, and he swerved into me. If he had continued like this, he would have definitely run over someone 100-200 meters ahead. I warned him, and this is the result," he said. Additionally, Akdeniz recorded a video after being assaulted. In the footage, Mehmet Akif Akdeniz stated, "I was beaten by four people because I warned the truck going 130 behind me in a place where the speed limit is 120 on the highway." An investigation has been launched regarding the incident.
