The General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly once again witnessed tense moments. Speaking at the podium, DEM Party İzmir Deputy Burcugül Çubuk recited a curse in Kurdish at the end of her speech. Çubuk's Kurdish curse drew the reaction of the deputies.
STRONG REACTION FROM İYİ PARTY'S ÇÖMEZ TO ÇUBUK'S KURDISH CURSE
İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez stated, "We reject the recitation of a curse. The use of this expression in a language we do not understand is unacceptable." Çömez later directed his reaction towards the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Pervin Buldan.
"YOU ARE NOT A TRANSLATOR, YOU ARE THE DEPUTY SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY"
Çömez, who was angered by Buldan's translation of Çubuk's words, stood up and spoke loudly. Çömez said to Buldan, "You translated it. It is not your responsibility. You are not a translator. You are the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. Your duty is not to translate the speaker's words." While the session was interrupted, DEM Party's Çubuk later stated that her words exceeded their intended meaning.
