The case of Aslı Baş, the 2003 Turkey Models Queen, who died suspiciously after falling from the balcony of a villa in the Bodrum district of Muğla in 2010, was postponed to January 21, 2027, after the family submitted an excuse. Father Mehmet Yavuz Baş, who has been fighting a legal battle for 16 years, claiming that his daughter was the victim of murder, said, “I was 62 when the case began, now I am 78. Are they waiting for my death?”

After the Court of Cassation’s reversal decision, the hearing in the Aslı Baş case, which had been reopened, was postponed once again. Father Mehmet Yavuz Baş, who could not attend the hearing due to his illness, said he had not lost his faith in justice.

HEARING POSTPONED TO JANUARY 21

Aslı Baş, who won first place in the “Miss Model Of Turkey” competition held in 2003, lost her life on the night of July 21, 2010, when she fell from the 6.5-meter-high balcony of tourism entrepreneur Ahmet Bayer’s villa at his holiday resort in Bodrum. After the Court of Cassation overturned the decision regarding Baş’s death, the case was reopened at the Muğla 1st High Criminal Court. Today’s hearing in the case was postponed to January 21, 2027, because the Baş family and their lawyer submitted an excuse.

“WE HAVE BEEN FIGHTING A LEGAL BATTLE FOR 16 YEARS”

Father Mehmet Yavuz Baş, who lives in Antalya, noting that he could not attend the hearing due to his illness, said, “The records on my daughter’s phone have become impossible to resolve in 16 years. For 16 years, we have been fighting a legal battle. Investigations were carried out to resolve it, to eliminate the technical problems, to determine what those phone conversations were, and to reveal them technically. No result was obtained. And after the Court of Cassation overturned the acquittal decision, we went through three courts. At the fourth court, I fell ill. I was in no condition to go. My lawyers and I submitted an excuse, and we could not attend this hearing.”

“THE AMBULANCE ARRIVES THREE HOURS LATER”

Father Baş, describing his claims about the night of the incident, alleged that in the call to 112, it was reported that his daughter had fallen down the stairs. Baş said, “On the night the murder was committed, 112 is called. The employee there says, ‘What is it?’ ‘There is a fall incident. She fell down the stairs, her head is bleeding,’ he says. ‘Who is this?’ ‘A customer.’ ‘Yes, a customer,’ he says. He is talking about Aslı. The ambulance arrives three hours later. So in the meantime, my view, my guess, is that she is being left to die. How can a person you said fell down the stairs and whose head is bleeding throw herself from a height and commit suicide?” he said.

“HER DRESS WOULD HAVE CAUGHT ON SOMETHING”

Baş, who argued that the witness statements contradicted each other, continued as follows:

“One of the witnesses says, ‘She dove over the hedge plant.’ Another says, ‘She jumped athletically.’ Another says, ‘She parted the plants and went through...’ Look, from a plant that is one meter high and 80 centimeters wide, if a person wearing a dress dove even from here, her skirt would catch somewhere there and tear. There is no such thing either. Besides, these were hidden and concealed. That is, her clothing was not given either. There is no tear anyway. Such a thing is not in question either.”

“THE CURSE OF THE OPPRESSED BRINGS DOWN THE SHAH”

Recalling that he was 62 years old on the date of the incident and that he is now 78, Baş said he had not lost his faith in justice. Baş said, “Are they waiting for my death? Will the case end when I die? My faith in justice will of course be vindicated today if not tomorrow. The curse of the oppressed brings down the shah. I have a curse.”

“THEY TOOK AWAY OUR JOY OF LIVING”

Father Baş, describing his daughter as someone who always looked at life positively and was smiling, said, “My daughter was a world beauty. I mean, apart from her physical appearance, three or four days before her death, she was thanking nature. That is, she was thanking life. She was thanking everything because she thought everything was very beautiful and looked at the world positively. They took this love of ours away from us. They made the world pitch-black for us. They took away our joy of living. We too have tasted that the greatest pain is the pain of losing a child. We were not where the fire fell; we remained under the fire.”
