Akaş's death came after another loss his family had suffered shortly before. Akaş's 19-year-old son Can Akaş had died on October 19 and was buried on October 20.

A funeral ceremony was held for Cem Akaş at the Marmara İlahiyat Mosque in Istanbul.
At the ceremony, attended by many names from the art and literary world, Akaş's wife Esra Özdoğan accepted condolences.
HE WILL BE BURIED IN THE CEMETERY WHERE HIS SON'S GRAVE IS LOCATED
After the funeral ceremony, Cem Akaş's body was carried on the shoulders of his relatives to the funeral vehicle.
Akaş's body was taken to be buried in Ümraniye Hekimbaşı Cemetery, where the grave of his 19-year-old son Can Akaş is also located.
