As the presidential elections approach, the candidacy process is one of the most talked-about topics. Just like in the previous election, the Republican People's Party (CHP) and its potential candidates are in the public spotlight during this process. Many research companies and journalists are conducting public opinion polls to analyze the process. In this context, the poll initiated by journalist Fatih Altaylı on social media drew attention.
FATIH ALTAYLI CONDUCTED A POLL
While discussions continue about who will be the CHP's presidential candidate, the names of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş are prominent. Fatih Altaylı organized a poll through his social media account to determine the public's inclination on this issue.
DELETED THE POLL
In response to Altaylı's question to his followers, "Which one would you sign for them to be a presidential candidate?" more than 230,000 people participated. According to the poll results, 58% of participants supported Mansur Yavaş, while 42% preferred Ekrem İmamoğlu. However, in the following hours, the poll was deleted by Fatih Altaylı.
SPARKED DISCUSSION ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Altaylı's removal of the poll caused a wide reaction on social media. Some users suggested that the poll was intentionally deleted and that the reason might be Mansur Yavaş being ahead.
ALTAYLI'S EXPLANATION
After receiving numerous criticisms for deleting the poll, Altaylı stated in his explanation, "I asked for my article. After receiving the results, I deleted it. Who can question what I do on my own account? You all saw the result; there is nothing secret. But I also have no obligation to ask you how I use my own account."
İMAMOĞLU APPLIED FOR THE PRIMARY, YAVAŞ DID NOT
Meanwhile, while the political agenda regarding the presidential candidacy remains active, Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu applied for the primary election on February 22, 2025, where the main opposition Republican People's Party will determine its presidential candidate. Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, on the other hand, did not apply for the primary but did not close the door to candidacy with his statement, "We will evaluate it if there is a demand."
