It has been claimed that the diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is under investigation by the prosecutor's office due to allegations of having a fake diploma, has been revoked. CHP Istanbul Deputy Lawyer Turan Taşkın Özer stated on his social media account that YÖK does not have the authority to annul diplomas. In his post, Özer said: "The information that our IMM Mayor Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu's university diploma has been annulled by YÖK is not true. Because YÖK does not have the authority to annul diplomas. I warn the public against false news and manipulations."

SUMMONED FOR TESTIMONY

In a statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated: "In the investigation initiated regarding the allegations of the falsity of the bachelor's diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, based on the report prepared by the Council of Higher Education, the person has been summoned to our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on February 26, 2025, with a summons to take his testimony regarding the findings related to the falsity of his diploma as stated in the report."
