An astonishing event occurred in Nanjing, China. An elderly man in his 80s fell from his apartment on the 15th floor and survived by getting caught on a clothes drying rack on the 7th floor. The unfortunate man was rescued by a heroic security officer who tied a fire hose around his waist and dangled down to save him.
THE CLOTHES DRYING RACK SAVED A LIFE
An elderly man living in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, lost his balance and fell from the window of his apartment on the 15th floor. The man, who plummeted down at great speed, miraculously got caught on a metal clothes drying rack mounted on the window of an apartment on the 7th floor. Neighbors who saw the elderly man hanging in the air were filled with great fear, while the site security arrived at the scene within seconds.
CHALLENGING DEATH WITH A FIRE HOSE
The hero of the rescue operation was 32-year-old site security officer and military veteran Zhang Wei. Seeing that the apartment on the 7th floor was empty and that intervention from below was impossible, Zhang immediately went up to the next floor. The brave officer, who tied a fire hose around his waist, reached the elderly man by dangling from the exterior of the building amidst the worried gazes of those around.
A RACE AGAINST TIME
Zhang Wei managed to securely grasp the elderly man, who was at risk of falling at any moment, and pull him to a safe area. As the moments of rescue were recorded second by second from nearby buildings, Zhang, a former soldier, said, "As soon as I heard the call for help, I acted without thinking. The only access route was the upper floor, and at that moment, my only focus was not to let go of the man's hand."
After the terrifying minutes, the elderly man was safely brought into the building and taken to the hospital for observation.
