At around 04:30 in Tuzla, a fire broke out on a boat docked at the marina located in Tuzla Cami Neighborhood. The fire, which started for an unknown reason, quickly spread to three adjacent boats. Those who saw the fire reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon notification, fire brigade, coast guard, and safety teams were dispatched to the scene.
THEY TRIED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES
Initially, nearby people intervened in the fire. Those who saw the flames rising from the boat made efforts for a long time to extinguish the fire. Citizens trying to prevent the flames from spreading to other boats pulled the burning boats away from the shore.
INTERVENTION CONTINUED AT SEA
Teams from the Coast Guard and the General Directorate of Coastal Safety intervened in the fire from the sea, while fire brigade teams intervened from the shore. The burning boats were extinguished with the intervention of the teams. After the fire, fire brigade teams conducted cooling operations on the boats that were pulled to the shore. Four boats became unusable after the fire. The teams' investigations are ongoing.
'THE LAST TWO BOATS WERE BURNING'
Ahmet Akbulut, who is on duty at the fishermen's shelter in the port adjacent to the marina, stated, "I am on duty at the shelter in the port, and around 04:45, I saw a boat burning in Tuzla marina. After that, flames erupted quite a bit, and they tried to pull that boat out to the open sea. At that moment, the fire trucks could not enter there. They came here, and the boats remained in the open. The fire trucks could not perform the extinguishing operation. The last two boats I saw were burning fiercely. The extinguishing phase is still ongoing. It caught fire at 04:45, and intervention occurred around 05:00, but the fire brigade could not intervene because the boats were in the open. Now, the coast guard has made the last interventions, and cooling is being done on the boats. The two boats I saw were burning fiercely, and there were quite a lot of flames. If they hadn't pulled the boats out to the open, all the boats in the marina would have burned," he said.
