NATIONAL HIGHWAY CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
The Ndjili River, which flows through a part of Kinshasa with a population of approximately 17 million, overflowed due to heavy rains last Friday, closing the national highway to traffic. Drivers were stranded on the road for more than 24 hours. Additionally, there were power outages in many areas of the capital, and Kinshasa Governor Daniel Bumba Lubaki announced that the water infrastructure was damaged but that water supply would be restored within 2-3 days. Lubaki noted that some casualties occurred due to illegal construction and threatened to evacuate those living in illegal buildings.
