Syria's new President Ahmed al-Shara, in a message sent to Russian President Putin, requested the handover of the ousted leader Assad to his country for trial. Russia, which rejected this request, stated that "Assad's presence in Moscow was accepted on the direct orders of Putin and under the condition of complete media and political non-involvement."
With the overthrow of Assad in Syria, a new government was established. On Sunday, December 8, the deposed leader who fled from Syria to Russia is living in Moscow with the Assad family. The leader of the new government, Ahmed al-Shara, informed Russian officials that Assad should be returned to them and tried in Syria.
"ABIDING BY MOSCOW'S RULES"
The Russian Ambassador to Baghdad, Alperus Kotrashev, stated in an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency of Iran, "One of the conditions for Bashar Assad to remain in Moscow is that he completely refrains from any media and political activities. So far, no violations have been observed on his part," indicating that Assad and his family are complying with the rules set by Moscow.
RUSSIA'S DEFINITE REJECTION OF SHARA'S REQUEST
While Russian officials firmly rejected Ahmed al-Shara's request to "extradite Assad for trial," it was noted that Assad and his family are under Putin's protection.
