HAD GREAT SIGNIFICANCE IN THE CIVIL WAR
Mount Qasyun, an elevation that dominates a large part of the city in the center of the capital Damascus, gained great significance in the civil war that erupted when the regime attempted to suppress the popular movements that began in Syria in 2011 with demands for freedom through violence.
The ousted regime had heavily deployed troops, primarily from the 4th Division under Mahir Assad, the brother of Bashar Assad, to the mountain, which it had prohibited civilians from accessing.
