Galatasaray Sports Club Secretary Eray Yazgan was sentenced to 10 months in prison on charges of promoting betting and gambling. The court decided to suspend the announcement of the verdict.
The case against Eray Yazgan, the General Secretary of Galatasaray Sports Club, who was accused of promoting betting or gambling by advertising, has been concluded. The hearing held at the Istanbul 25th Criminal Court of First Instance was attended by the lawyers of both parties.
HE WAS SENTENCED TO 10 MONTHS IN PRISON
The court, announcing its decision, sentenced the defendant Eray Yazgan to 10 months in prison and ruled for the postponement of the announcement of the verdict.
FROM THE INDICTMENT
In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Eray Yazgan was referred to as the 'suspect', while the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sports Toto Organization was mentioned as the 'victim of the crime'.
The indictment stated that during the match played between Galatasaray and Çaykur Rizespor on September 14, 2024, advertisements for a betting site were placed on the upper back of the Galatasaray players' jerseys and on the digital LED boards of the stadium, and that the mentioned site, which is based abroad, provided services for online betting.
It was noted in the indictment that the advertisement in question was made as a result of negotiations conducted by the suspect Yazgan on behalf of Galatasaray Sports Club and the signed contract, and it was requested that the suspect Yazgan be sentenced to imprisonment of 1 to 3 years for the crime of "violating Article 5 of Law No. 7258 on the Regulation of Betting and Gambling in Football and Other Sports Competitions".
