Handwritten notes by Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi, containing his views on life and written between 1944 and 1946, were sold at auction for approximately 1.7 million dollars.

More than 600 handwritten messages written by Mahatma Gandhi between 1944 and 1946 found a buyer for $1.69 million at an auction in Mumbai. This sale broke the record for the highest price paid for a document related to Indian history.

A RECORD PRICE FOR HANDWRITTEN NOTES

According to reports in the Indian press, Gandhi's handwritten notes were put up for auction in Mumbai. The notes, containing more than 600 handwritten messages written by Gandhi between 1944 and 1946 on truth, non-violence, and self-discipline, were sold for $1.69 million.

In a statement from the auction house "Saffronart," it was noted that this sale "broke the record for the highest price paid for a document related to Indian history at an auction."

In the statement, which did not share information about the identity of the person who purchased the notes, it was recorded that the work would remain in India.
