The Istanbul Governorship and AKOM warned citizens on Saturday against the heavy downpour expected to be effective across the province. As temperatures are forecast to drop by 7 degrees suddenly with the cool air coming from the Balkans, precipitation of up to 30 kilograms per square meter is expected, especially in European side districts such as Çatalca, Silivri, Esenyurt, and Başakşehir. Authorities urged caution against floods, lightning, hail, and transportation disruptions.

The Governorship of Istanbul and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) issued a warning regarding the new weather system expected to be effective across the province.

TEMPERATURE TO DROP BY 7 DEGREES SUDDENLY

It was stated that air temperatures, which have been ranging between 31-34 degrees throughout the week, will show a noticeable decrease as of Saturday. With the entry of cool air coming from the Balkans into the region, it was noted that thermometers are expected to drop to around 27 degrees.

WILL START AT 8 AM

The rainy weather system, expected to begin on Saturday at 08:00 AM, is forecasted to remain effective until 8:00 PM. It is predicted that the unstable weather conditions resulting from the meeting of hot and humid air with cool air coming from the north may increase the intensity of precipitation. While strong thunderstorm showers, which could locally reach levels of 10-30 kg/m in different parts of Istanbul, are expected, it is also estimated that lightning, thunder, and small-scale local hail events may occur during this process.

ESPECIALLY EFFECTIVE IN THE EUROPEAN SIDE

In the statement from the Governorship, according to the assessment of the General Directorate of Meteorology, it was reported that the thunderstorm rain in Istanbul is expected to be strong tomorrow from morning until evening in the European Side districts of Çatalca, Silivri, Büyükçekmece, Beylikdüzü, Esenyurt, Arnavutköy, and Başakşehir.

In the statement, where it was noted that the wind will blow from northerly directions at moderate strength and occasionally strong, it was stated that citizens should be careful and take precautions against negative situations such as floods, water overflows, lightning, small-scale hail, and transportation disruptions that may be caused by heavy rain and wind.
