Galatasaray's goalkeeper Günay Güvenç made statements about the general season in the Super League and the future. The experienced goalkeeper, who expressed his desire to be in the starting eleven next season, said, "Let me tell our coach from here, I will make his job quite difficult. I am eagerly waiting for the training camp. No matter who plays, the success of Galatasaray always comes first."

Galatasaray, which became champion for the 25th time in the Super League, experienced goalkeeper Günay Güvenç made statements to Cumhuriyet Newspaper. Evaluating the season, Güvenç also made striking statements about the future, challenging everyone.

GÜNAY GÜVENÇ'S STATEMENTS

What did you feel when you received the first offer from Galatasaray? Because there is a reality of Muslera, and you have to be ready to wait as a backup behind him...

"Choosing Galatasaray was initially a challenge for myself. I was aware that I was the goalkeeper of this place, that I could carry this burden, and that I would be playing in a big team. I challenged myself, and I wanted to show this to everyone. I had also gained match and life experience. I accepted the offer because I thought it would be the right step, and I'm glad I came."

"I HAVE A LEADERSHIP SPIRIT"

You are like a big brother in the team, almost a secret captain? Is this something inherent in your nature?

"This trait has always been in me. I was a bit younger during my years at Beşiktaş. No team ever looked at me as a young player. I always had a settled character. This became more apparent at Göztepe. I captained Gaziantep for 5 years. This was something that was a bit inside me. It’s not something that developed later. I am a person who loves to guide, take ownership, and support. I have a leadership spirit."

"HE TOLD ME, 'YOU ARE THE BEST GOALKEEPER TO COME HERE'"

We haven't seen anyone who has challenged Muslera for 14 years, taken the jersey from him, and provided as much confidence in goal. How did you gain this trust?

"This trust was established through performance at first. I had to show this in training. I had to demonstrate it even in the few matches I played. Muslera telling me, 'I wish you had come earlier' motivated me incredibly. He said, 'If you had come earlier, we could have carried this place together for longer.' He has also said, 'You might be the best goalkeeper to come here.' He still says that. This makes me even happier. I believe I have shown my presence to the coach and players with my stance, character, and the way I carry myself both on and off the field. There has never been anything negative about me until now. Of course, there are mistakes and errors in goalkeeping; these are the realities of sports. But I have always shown the coach and our team that I can play in this position with my discipline, work ethic, and quality."

"2 CUPS, RECORDS SUITED WELL"

Did you talk to Muslera about not leaving?

"We talked; I was thinking about what would be better for him. Is this the end, or should we add another championship on top of this? We tried to look at it from all sides. From my perspective, this is the best for him. The 2 cups suited him very well, and he broke records. There is also the family factor. If he wanted to continue, no one would say no. He is still fit and working very well."

"THIS MEANS I HAVE PROVEN MYSELF"

Muslera answered the question, 'Who would you like to see in the G.Saray goal?' with 'The best goalkeeper who can protect the G.Saray goal in the world is Günay Güvenç.' What do you think?

"I wasn't expecting such a statement. Hearing this from Muslera is an honor. We only shared 2 years at G.Saray. This means I have shown and proven myself to him in those 2 years. Otherwise, he wouldn't have made such a statement about me. It must have come from his heart; if he didn't think I could do it, he wouldn't have used such a sentence. He always told me this, but I was proud that he shared it publicly. This means I must be doing some things right. But I am not someone who will be satisfied with these words. I want to show more. We are very sad that Muslera is leaving. Such a departure does not suit such a beautiful character. I was very happy with his words. Now, the sentence Muslera said carries weight on me. I need to prove that as well. On one hand, it is a beautiful thing; on the other hand, it tells me that I need to do better. I will give my all."

''I WILL MAKE HIS JOB HARDER''

Okan Buruk said, "The new goalkeeper will compete with Günay for the starting position." Are you ready to be number one, will it create pressure on you?

"I am a person who thrives under pressure. I believe I manage pressure very well and extract positive aspects from it, which is why my coach has such statements. I know his thoughts about me. Let me say here, I will make his job quite difficult. I am eagerly waiting for the training camp. No matter who plays, the success of G.Saray always comes first. We will all serve G.Saray. It could be me, another name, or other names in different positions. We represent a big community here. The most important thing is success. But of course, I personally want to play as well."
