In the scope of the investigation conducted against the Ahbap Association, the testimony given at the prosecutor's office by famous actress Hazal Kaya, who testified as a witness, has emerged. In her statement, Kaya said she also donated to Ahbap, stating, "I also made a donation of 120 thousand lira. I am also a victim because our donations were misused by Haluk Levent in this way. I am very sad. I want to find out where my donation went."
As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Ahbap Association, Hazal Kaya gave a statement at the Istanbul Palace of Justice. Kaya's statement to the prosecutor's office has emerged.
'I WENT TO BABALA TV BROADCAST ON MY OWN'
In her statement, Kaya said, "Haluk Levent contacted me by phone in 2020 regarding his aid activities for children with SMA, as I was also involved in similar aid efforts. He mentioned his own activities in a similar direction but did not make a concrete request for help. I never met him face to face during this process or later. Likewise, we had no further phone conversations. Therefore, we have no acquaintance. During the earthquake period, I wanted to help like every Turkish citizen. When I saw Babala TV's live broadcast at that time, I went to the office where the broadcast was taking place to join it myself. No one called or directed me to go there. Our statements there and my subsequent posts on my personal social media accounts were solely intended to help people affected by the earthquake," she said.
'I DONATED 120 THOUSAND LIRA TO AHBAP'
Continuing her statement, Kaya said, "I was very emotional because I was pregnant at the time. I gave birth shortly after, and I did not participate in any such events or broadcasts afterward. Since many pregnant women and children were also affected by the earthquake, I felt especially compelled to help. Therefore, I provided as much assistance as I could. I made a donation of 120 thousand lira to Ahbap. I am also a victim because our donations were misused by Haluk Levent in this way. I am very sorry that our trust has been damaged like this. I want to know where my donation went. I will exercise my right to complain if necessary," she said.
'USING OUR DONATIONS FOR GAMBLING IS A DESPICABLE ACT'
Kaya said, "During this process, I did not only share posts about Ahbap and Babala TV. I also tagged AFAD in response to calls from people trapped under rubble or in urgent need of help, making similar posts on my social media accounts. The fact that the Ahbap Association procured tents from the Red Crescent or shared statements involving support from various public officials created a sense of trust in us at the time. However, now, I see the exploitation of this trust and our public visibility to collect donations from people as a harm done to society. Based on what I have learned from the press, I find the grounds he relies on in his defense to be horrifying. They have no validity. Using the good intentions of thousands of people, including myself, to spend our donations on betting and gambling is a despicable act," she said.
Hazal Kaya left the courthouse after completing the statement procedures.
