An investigation has been launched by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office due to statements made against the Government of the Republic of Turkey in a street interview shared on social media accounts.

The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation regarding the expressions used against the Government of the Republic of Turkey in the street interview. 

PERMISSION WILL BE REQUESTED FROM THE MINISTRY

In a written statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated: 'An ex officio review has been initiated concerning the expressions used against the Government of the Republic of Turkey in the content of a video related to a street interview shared on social media accounts, and a request for investigation permission will be made from the Ministry of Justice in order to evaluate the act within the scope of Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code.'

WHAT IS TURKISH PENAL CODE ARTICLE 301?

Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code regulates the provisions regarding the crime of publicly denigrating the Turkish Nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, and the state's institutions and bodies. Conducting an investigation into this crime, which stipulates a prison sentence of 6 months to 2 years, is subject to the permission of the Minister of Justice.
