In the US, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy suffered a stroke days after announcing that he had received information about Pentagon war plans against Iran. The 53-year-old senator, who criticized the Trump administration's military preparations with the words 'The plans are crazy,' was hospitalized, and it was reported that his condition was improving and that he was responding positively to treatment.
Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, who represents the US state of Connecticut, suffered a stroke on Saturday, October 31.
In a statement on November 1, Murphy's Chief of Staff Allison Herwitt said the senator felt numbness in his arm while watching his son's hockey game.
During an examination after he was taken to hospital, it was determined that Murphy had suffered a stroke. The senator was transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for more detailed follow-up and treatment.
HE HAD SAID HE RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM THE PENTAGON ABOUT A WAR PLAN
A few days before he fell ill, Murphy claimed at an event organized by the Middle East Institute in Washington that the Trump administration was preparing a new military operation against Iran.
Murphy, who stated that he had held a detailed meeting with Pentagon officials, said he could not share all the details of the military plan conveyed to him. The senator, who argued that the Trump administration could restart attacks against Iran after the midterm elections, opposed the plan being considered a short-term operation.
HE HAD WARNED, SAYING "THEIR PLANS ARE CRAZY"
After his meeting with Pentagon officials, Murphy said he found the military plan extremely dangerous.
The senator, arguing that the US launching a new operation against Iran could further escalate the conflict, warned that such a step could lead to destructive consequences. Murphy also stated that a possible operation could have serious consequences for the rule of law.
STATEMENT FROM DOCTORS ON HIS HEALTH CONDITION
After Murphy was taken to hospital, a statement was made by his team regarding his health condition. Chief of Staff Allison Herwitt reported that the senator was conscious and responding positively to treatment. Stating that the doctors were hopeful about the recovery process, Herwitt said they expected Murphy to make a full recovery.
TRUMP ALSO MADE A STATEMENT
US President Donald Trump also answered journalists' questions about Murphy being taken to hospital. Trump, who said he had just learned the news, said he would contact the Democratic senator at an appropriate time.
After Murphy's health condition was announced, Republican and Democratic senators also published get-well messages. Meanwhile, there is no medical evidence or official statement indicating any causal link between Murphy's statements about the war plan and his stroke.
