Seçkin Öztürk, who came from Ankara to Bursa to buy a car he saw in an advertisement on a website, claimed that he was defrauded using the "sazan sarmalı" method and filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office. Öztürk explained that 3 million 700 thousand liras of his money had vanished.
A 41-year-old citizen named Seçkin Öztürk, living in Ankara, contacted the person who posted an advertisement on a website to buy the vehicle mentioned in the ad.
AGREED ON 3.7 MILLION LIRA BY BARGAINING OVER THE PHONE
Öztürk, who negotiated over the phone with the other party and agreed on 3 million 700 thousand lira, gave power of attorney to a friend to expedite the process and sent the vehicle for inspection.
WENT TO BURSA TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTIONS
While the transactions were being carried out, Öztürk came to Bursa and met the seller at the notary. While they were at the notary, Öztürk made a secure payment of 1 million 400 thousand lira at the request of the other party. He then transferred the remaining 2 million 300 thousand lira to two different bank accounts provided to him. The sale transaction at the notary could not be completed after the seller claimed that the sent money had not been credited to the bank accounts.
REALIZED HE WAS SCAMMED WHEN THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE SELLER
After contacting the bank and receiving the receipt for the 2 million 300 thousand lira he sent via wire transfer, Öztürk realized he had been scammed when he did not receive a response from the seller.
FILED A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT
After checking the advertisements on the website again and understanding that the actual owner of the vehicle was a different person, Öztürk filed a criminal complaint following his victimization.
"WE CAME FROM ANKARA WITH GREAT HOPE"
Öztürk stated that the person he negotiated with was different from the one who brought the vehicle and noted: "He told us he was the owner of the company. He said he sent his accountant to the vehicle inspection and would continue the process after the results came out. Currently, 1 million 400 thousand lira is waiting at the notary, but we could not take the transfer of the vehicle. We went to the police and filed a complaint. We presented all the correspondence. We came from Ankara with great hope. Earning money is not easy. But our victimization is very significant."
