The Research Commission on Violence and Abuse Against Children convened to listen to representatives from the Radio and Television Supreme Council and the Information Technologies and Communications Authority.
CHP MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT LEFT THE ROOM
CHP commission members Suat Özçağdaş, Nermin Yıldırım Kara, Ayşe Sibel Yanıkömeroğlu, and Semra Dinçer stated that not only public institutions but also the families of victims should be heard, and then they left the commission.
"NOBODY WE RECOMMENDED WAS HEARD"
CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for Education Policies Suat Özçağdaş mentioned that they had worked on which institutions to invite when the commission started and that they had suggested nearly 100 people and institutions, saying, "In the past weeks, we also made a written request for these names to be heard. The aunt of baby Sıla, the father of our daughter Narin, the father and mother of Alperen Enes, the relatives of our children who died in a fire in İzmir, and the personnel who went there, as well as the families of newborn babies who are victims. Here, we listen to public institutions every week, which is very valuable, but almost every week we are listening to presentations from the central government. We could have received these presentations in writing as well. Public institutions naturally carry out their duties in the best way they know within the framework of their legal responsibilities. The problem is this; children continue to die, and we cannot discuss the reason for our establishment here. The victims need to be talked about here," he stated.
"THERE ARE HUNDREDS, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO SEEK HELP FROM OUR COMMISSION AND REACH OUT TO YOU"
Commission Chairman Cengiz Aydoğdu stated that they called the institutions jointly and expressed that they would not meet the request to listen to the victims. CHP Ankara Deputy Semra Dinçer said, "The purpose of establishing this commission occurred after Narin, baby Sıla, and the five children who burned in İzmir. In other words, it is based on symbolic children. Clearly, there is a malfunction, as there are hundreds, thousands of people who seek help from our commission and reach out to you, creating grievances. There is a problem both in the judiciary and in the system. They see us as hope for the change of this system," she said.
