In Istanbul, the suspect who approached a person sleeping under a tree in Gezi Park first lay down on the ground as if resting.
After a while, the suspect crawled closer to the victim and pulled the mobile phone from his left pocket. Hiding the phone in his shirt, the suspect walked away together with the other suspect who was keeping watch. When the victim woke up and realized his phone had been stolen, he filed a complaint with the police.
SECURITY TEAMS CAUGHT HIM IN THE METRO
Following the complaint, teams from the Istanbul Police Department Security Teams Branch Directorate launched an investigation and examined footage from nearby security cameras. Identifying the suspects from their descriptions, the teams detained G.G., who stole the mobile phone, in Taksim Metro. After processing at the police station, G.G., who was referred to court on a 'pickpocketing' charge, was arrested by the court he was brought before. It was learned that efforts to catch the other suspect who was keeping watch are ongoing.
THOSE MOMENTS ON CAMERA
The moments of theft were also captured by a MOBESE camera. In the footage, the moments when the suspect lies down next to the sleeping person, crawls up, takes the phone from his pocket, and hides it in his shirt are visible. The footage also includes the moments when the other suspect keeps watch, and then the two people leave the scene together.
