In Başiskele, Kocaeli, 14-year-old Kerem Y. lost his balance and fell into a stream. To save him, his 17-year-old brother Ali Sami Y. and then their mother Reyhan Karabudak jumped into the water. Kerem Y. managed to get out of the water on his own, while his brother was rescued after approximately 1.5 hours of efforts by the teams. The mother’s lifeless body was recovered from the water.

Reyhan Karabudak, who was reported to have divorced her husband, went for a walk with her sons Kerem Y. and Ali Sami Y. in the Yuvacık Dam area of Kocaeli's Başiskele district.
YOUNGEST SON FELL INTO THE RIVER
During the walk, 14-year-old Kerem lost his balance and fell into the river. Seeing his brother fall, 17-year-old Ali Sami Y. jumped in after him, while mother Reyhan Karabudak also jumped into the water to save her two children.
ESCAPED FROM THE WATER WITH HIS OWN MEANS
Kerem Y., who managed to get out of the water by himself, asked for help from those around him. Upon notification, fire brigade, AFAD, UMKE, health, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene.
RESCUE OPERATION INITIATED
While Kerem Y. was taken to the hospital by ambulance, teams began working to rescue the mother and son. Ali Sami Y. was rescued after approximately 1.5 hours of efforts by the teams. After initial intervention at the scene, Ali Sami Y. was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
MOTHER'S BODY RECOVERED
Shortly after, teams reached 37-year-old mother Karabudak. It was determined that Karabudak had lost her life. After the procedures, Karabudak's lifeless body was taken to the morgue of Kocaeli City Hospital.
FAREWELL TO HER FINAL JOURNEY
The funeral of Reyhan Karabudak, which was delivered to her family, was buried in the New Cemetery after the funeral prayer held at the Ulu Mosque in Karamürsel district following the noon prayer. While the children who were rescued from the water accepted condolences; Karamürsel Mayor Ahmet Çalık also attended the funeral.
