Despite not having a sea, the trout raised in the Çekerek district of Yozgat is being sent to foreign markets.
The fish produced in the Çekerek Dam, located in the middle of the steppe, are grown in the Black Sea and exported to European countries, as well as Russia and Japan.
"WE EXPORT THIS TO MANY COUNTRIES"
Transporter Ali Kurt, who stated that the shipping process of the fish is carried out with great care, emphasized the sensitivity of live fish transportation. Kurt said, "We take the fish we receive as fry and transfer them to our cages and systems, and we harvest them in May. We export this to many countries. We have been doing this work for 45 days, for 2 months. We must quickly deliver the fish we take from here within 4-5 hours with our oxygen tanks to ensure they remain healthy," he said.
"THE FISH WE SEND WILL GO TO RUSSIA AND JAPAN"
Producer Adnan Yılmaz, who stated that they have been producing at the Çekerek Dam since 2015, expressed their pride in exporting fish from a city without a sea. Yılmaz said, "Our focus is mainly on rainbow trout. As you can see, we send our fish, which we raise, as salmon candidates to the Black Sea. The fish raised as salmon in the Black Sea go to European countries from there. The fish we are currently sending will go to Russia and Japan, God willing," he said.
"WE ARE CURRENTLY SENDING AROUND 200 TONS OF SHIPMENTS"
Yılmaz also mentioned the production process and their goals, saying, "Our adventure here starts in March. We are currently shipping the fish we bring as fry, which weigh between 300 and 600 grams. Our quota is 225 tons per year. We are currently sending around 200 tons of shipments. God willing, our goal is bigger. Of course, some opportunities need to be provided to us by our government. If these opportunities are given, we want to produce more and contribute to employment and production," he stated.
The fish farming adventure that started in the middle of the steppe in Yozgat, a city without a sea, is now reaching foreign markets, making significant contributions to the regional economy.
