The Ministry of Interior announced that, according to the latest assessments from the General Directorate of Meteorology, strong and at times heavy snowfall is expected in many provinces on Sunday, December 28, 2025. According to the warning issued by the ministry, in some areas, snow accumulation is expected to exceed 20 centimeters.
In a post made on the Ministry of Interior's social media account, it was reported that heavy snowfall exceeding 20 centimeters is expected in the surroundings of Zonguldak, Düzce, Bartın, Bolu, Karabük, Kastamonu, and in the northwest of Sinop.
SNOWFALL WILL BE EFFECTIVE ACROSS THE COUNTRY
The statement also noted that strong snowfall between 5-20 centimeters is expected in the high areas of Erzincan, Elazığ, Tunceli, Erzurum, Ardahan, and gradually in Iğdır, as well as in Ağrı, Kars, and Van; while in the northern and eastern parts of Bingöl, Bitlis, Muş, Hakkari, and Şırnak, heavy snowfall exceeding 20 centimeters may be observed.
HEAVY RAINFALL IS EXPECTED IN EASTERN AND SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA
It was recorded that strong snowfall is expected in the northeast of Diyarbakır (Kulp, Lice, Hazro, and the Karacadağ area on the Diyarbakır–Şanlıurfa road), in the north of Batman (Kozluk, Sason), and in the high areas of the north and east of Siirt.
MINISTRY WARNED: BE CAUTIOUS
The Ministry of Interior urged citizens to be careful and take precautions against disruptions in transportation, icing, and freezing events, as well as blizzards in high areas, and to closely follow the warnings from the relevant authorities.
HEAVY SNOW HAS STARTED IN BOLU
Due to snowfall and icing on the D-100 highway in the Bolu Mountain section towards Istanbul, heavy-tonnage vehicles are not allowed to pass.
Snowfall continues intensely in the Bolu Mountain section of the D-100 highway. In areas where the snow thickness has exceeded 20 centimeters, trucks, lorries, and tankers are causing disruptions in transportation.
ESKİŞEHİR'S TEMPERATURE IS BELOW ZERO
In Eskişehir, where the air temperature was measured at a minimum of -1 and a maximum of 1 degree, roofs, vehicles, and plants were covered with snow. The views around the Porsuk River created postcard-like images.
KARS, ARDAHAN, AND VAN TURNED WHITE
With the effective snowfall in Kars and Ardahan, the city centers were covered in white. Kars Municipality and highway teams began snow plowing and salting operations. After heavy snow and blizzard in the Sarıkamış district, municipal teams cleared the roads. In Ardahan, roads and parked vehicles were also covered with snow. Due to heavy snow and blizzard, the Van-Bahçesaray highway was temporarily closed to traffic. Access to the district is provided via Bitlis's Hizan district.
VILLAGE ROADS IN SINOP CLOSED, TRAFFIC JAMMED IN ERZURUM
In Sinop, 34 village roads were closed to traffic due to heavy snow, while teams continue their efforts to open the roads. In Erzurum, the snow that started in the afternoon covered the city center in white, causing disruptions in traffic.
