A 18-year-old young man in Batman has been living with a bullet lodged in his head for 1.5 years, which doctors were unable to remove due to its location in a risky area. After undergoing physical therapy, he returned to his normal life but continues to experience issues with his right hand. He stated, "I live with the fear of death from a bullet in my head. I am constantly anxious. I want those who fired the bullet that darkened my life to be caught."

On November 5, 2023, Yusuf Emre Özbek (18), who left home with his friends and brother to go to a match in Bahçelievler Neighborhood, 1624th Street, Batman, collapsed immediately after taking a group photo. Yusuf was taken to the hospital, where an X-ray revealed a bullet lodged in his head. After 4 days in intensive care and 4 days in the ward, doctors did not intervene for the bullet in Yusuf's head due to its location in a risky area. As Yusuf, who was regularly monitored, began to show signs of speech difficulties and weakness in his right hand and fingers, a physical therapy process was initiated.

"I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY USING MY RIGHT HAND"

Yusuf, who is still having difficulty using his right hand and moving his fingers, said, "It was determined that a stray bullet hit my head in the hospital. The doctors said it could not be removed because the bullet is in a risky place. From that moment on, a very challenging process began for me. I was struggling to move my hands, walk, and speak. I had an intense physical therapy period for 1.5 years. There have been some improvements during this time, but I still have difficulty using my right hand, especially moving my fingers. I have now been able to return to my school and social life," he said.

"I AM LIVING IN FEAR OF DEATH"

Yusuf, who stated that he is living in fear of death, said, "I am living with a bullet in my head, so I am afraid of death. I am constantly in a state of anxiety. My family and friends have supported me a lot during this 1.5 years. They have tried as hard as I have. I want to warn our citizens from here. Please do not fire randomly into the air. A bullet fired randomly can ruin someone else's life. I want those who fired the bullet that ruined my life to be caught," he expressed.

"A BULLET YOU FIRE CAN RUIN ANOTHER PERSON'S LIFE"

Bayram Özbek (49) said, "My son has been living with a stray bullet in his head for 1.5 years. We have been going through a lot of difficulties for 1.5 years. The doctors said the bullet could not be removed because it is in a risky place. We have worked hard to get Yusuf back on his feet. His friends, our community, and relatives have all helped, thank God. Do not fire bullets randomly into the air. A bullet you fire can ruin a person's life. For example, we have been taking my son to physical therapy for 1.5 years. We are trying to reintegrate him into social life. After all, my son has a stray bullet in his head. We live in fear of death. I live with the fear that something will happen to my son at any moment. No one had the right to make me live this fear. We want those responsible for this to be caught and brought to justice. My son is much better than before. He has slight problems with his right hand, and hopefully, he will overcome them as soon as possible. My son will live with a stray bullet for now; it cannot be intervened. It will only be removed if it can be intervened in the future," he said.
