Beşiktaş's Czech footballer Vaclav Cerny had a heated argument with a reporter and left the broadcast after an interview following his team's 2-1 defeat to the Faroe Islands in the World Cup qualifiers. Cerny reacted strongly to critical questions regarding the first goal conceded by his team. The Czech press reported this defeat with headlines like "Night of Shame."
The Faroe Islands achieved a major surprise by defeating the Czech Republic 2-1 at home in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers. Beşiktaş's right winger Vaclav Cerny started the match in the starting eleven but was substituted in the 87th minute.
The goals that brought victory to the home team came from Hanus Sorensen and Martin Agnarsson. The only goal for the Czech Republic was scored by Adam Karabec. The Czech press reported this defeat with headlines like "Night of Shame."
CERNY EXPERIENCED TENSION IN THE INTERVIEW
Speaking to Czech television after the match, Vaclav Cerny was extremely demoralized following the defeat. Cerny stated, "There was effort, but the most important thing, the final touch, was missing. It's hard to evaluate so soon after the match. I don't want to say anything I will regret."
