A report that an elderly couple in Antalya fell into a drainpipe on the street put teams on alert. However, the truth emerged shortly after, as it was learned that the elderly man reached by phone was at home with his wife. Even the man's father, who spoke with him on the phone, could not convince him, as he was assessed to have psychological issues.
After Fikret Y. called the 112 Emergency Call Center in Antalya, reporting that his mother and father had fallen into a rainwater drain on the roadside, teams were put on alert.
The incident occurred around 13:30 on the side road of Dumpınar Boulevard in the Meltem neighborhood of Muratpaşa district. According to information obtained, a person identified as Fikret Y. called the 112 Emergency Call Center and reported that his mother and father were stuck in a drain pipe on the street. Upon the notification, police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Arriving at the address quickly, fire and medical teams, along with Fikret Y., inspected areas where the elderly couple could be trapped.
COULDN'T EVEN CONVINCE HIM THE FATHER HE CLAIMED FELL DIDN'T FALL Teams from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department found no trace of the elderly couple during their search. Suspicious of Fikret Y.'s behavior, the teams asked him to contact his mother or father by phone. When the fire teams reached Fikret Y.'s father by cell phone, he said they had returned home after going to the hospital in the morning. However, even his father's words were not enough to convince Fikret Y. Fikret Y. continued to claim that his mother and father were in the drain pipe, saying, "You've been here since morning. Don't lie to me."
"IT HAPPENED BEFORE MY EYES" Fikret Y., claiming to have seen his mother and father stuck lying inside the drain pipe, alleged that the incident happened before his eyes, saying, "They went to the hospital; they were supposed to get the results and come to me. They had argued; we were going to have breakfast together. They were coming here, arguing with my mom, and my dad jumped in. Meanwhile, my mom tried to hold him. She called me and said, 'this and that happened, come quickly.' I ran barefoot to save them. But it didn't work. I saw my mom, but I didn't see my dad. I tried to hold them, even brought this tree. They couldn't hold on either; they slipped a bit more. It happened before my eyes; they were here," he said. When journalists said, "They spoke on the phone and said they were home," Fikret Y. responded, "I swear they are not. I saw them with my own eyes; they were here. I am sure; I saw them with my own eyes. I beg you, save them." After the searches and the phone conversation, the teams left the area, and Fikret Y. was taken to the Bahçelievler Police Station.
