HEIMLICH MANEUVER

The Heimlich maneuver is a first aid method used to clear the airway of individuals who cannot breathe due to food or a foreign object becoming lodged in the trachea.

By standing behind the person, the arms are brought together at waist level. One hand is made into a fist and placed just above the navel. The fist is grasped with the other hand, and quick inward and upward thrusts are applied. This movement uses the pressure of air in the lungs to expel the object blocking the trachea.
