With the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, Israel pressed the button to implement its dirty plan. The Israeli army occupied the buffer zone in the Golan Heights. ISRAELI FLAG HOISTED IN SYRIAThe advancing Israeli army approached as close as 20 kilometers to the capital, Damascus. Striking images continue to emerge from Israel's occupation of Syria. In a recently filmed video, Israeli soldiers were seen hoisting the Israeli flag in the area they declared as a buffer zone in southern Syria. WHAT HAPPENED?Following the intensifying clashes in Syria on November 27, the Israeli army increased its attacks on Syria simultaneously with the collapse of the 61-year-old Baath regime on December 8. The Israeli army, which began to destroy the military infrastructure and capabilities left by the regime's army, expanded its occupation in the Golan Heights, which is Syrian territory. Entering the buffer zone around the Golan Heights, the Israeli army advanced its occupation further, reaching as close as 25 kilometers to the capital, Damascus. Israel has been occupying the Golan Heights, which belong to Syria, since 1967. The borders of the buffer zone and the demilitarized zone were defined by the Forces Withdrawal Agreement signed between Israel and Syria in 1974. In a statement made by the Israeli army yesterday, it was noted that since the fall of the Baath regime, airstrikes had been carried out on 320 "strategic targets." Among the targets hit were Syria's air defense systems, missile depots, military aircraft and helicopters, as well as warships. The statement claimed that "more than 70% of the military capacity of Syria remaining from the Baath regime had been eliminated" in these attacks.
