Many citizens in Karaman have complained that their drinking water smells like oil. Following these reports, the Karaman Provincial Health Directorate announced that analysis results of the water samples revealed the presence of compounds known as 'petroleum hydrocarbons.' Authorities have warned citizens not to use the water for drinking purposes.
Citizens living in Karaman have recently reported that the water coming from the taps smells like oil and have filed complaints with the relevant authorities.
A WATER SAMPLE WAS TAKEN
Following the intense complaints from citizens, the Karaman Provincial Health Directorate took a sample of the water for examination.
TERRIFYING RESULTS CAME FROM THE REPORT
While the samples taken were sent to the Ankara National Public Health Reference Laboratory, it was reported that compounds known as "petroleum hydrocarbons" were found in the water during the examination.
STATEMENT FROM THE PROVINCIAL HEALTH DIRECTORATE
In a statement made by the Karaman Provincial Health Directorate regarding the issue, the following expressions were included: "According to the regulations on Water for Human Consumption, the health suitability and cleanliness of drinking and utility waters are monitored by our Provincial Health Directorate of Karaman. Based on the complaints from our citizens, it was determined that the sample taken from the reservoir connected to the main network supplying water to the city center of Karaman was found to be unsuitable according to the conditions specified in the regulation, as 'petroleum hydrocarbons' were detected in the analysis results evaluated at the Ankara National Public Health Reference Laboratory. The situation has been officially communicated to the Karaman Municipality in writing for immediate necessary measures to be taken."
CRITICAL WARNING TO CITIZENS
According to a report in the Sözcü newspaper, the directorate also warned citizens not to use the water for drinking purposes.
