It has been claimed that a striking development has occurred regarding four council members of Söke Municipality who switched from CHP to AK Party. It was alleged that during an event they attended, local women verbally protested the council members by saying, "Shame on you, you shameless ones, we do not forgive you, may our votes be cursed." One of the members, Muharrem Özcan, stated, "The spitting incident was rhetorical. No spit came to our faces."
Hilal Kabasakal, Şakir Gülmez, Muharrem Özcan, and Necmettin Aka, who resigned from CHP and joined the AK Party, were reportedly met with protests during the Turkey-Greece Folk Dance event held at Zeytindalı Park in Yenikent Neighborhood.
STRONG REACTION FROM CITIZENS
According to the news from Aydın Denge, local women particularly reacted against Şakir Gülmez and Muharrem Özcan. Citizens verbally protested the council members by saying, "Boo to you, shameless ones, we do not forgive you, may our votes be haram." The other two individuals accompanying Gülmez and Özcan were also affected by the incident.
COUNCIL MEMBERS WERE AT A LOSS FOR WHAT TO DO
According to witnesses, during the incident, the council members who changed parties were at a loss for what to do. The council members, who did not respond to the citizens' verbal reactions, remained silent and left the area.
"A SAD INCIDENT"
The council members expressed to their close circles that they were deeply disturbed by what happened. They stated that they had never faced such a severe protest before and expressed that they felt great shame at the moment of the incident. They also mentioned that they were uneasy about the possibility of similar reactions occurring again.
"NO SPIT CAME TO OUR FACES"
It was learned that Muharrem Özcan, one of the members who joined the AK Party, was very upset about the events. Özcan said, "It is normal for such reactions to occur. The spitting incident was verbal as 'Boo to you.' No spit came to our faces. The angry woman said, 'Boo to you, I do not forgive, may our votes be haram.' I wish such a situation had not occurred."
"NO SPITTING INCIDENT DIRECTED AT ME"
The other member, Şakir Gülmez, stated: "The protesting local woman said, 'We voted for CHP and you switched to AK Party. I do not forgive, may it be haram.' I did not engage and did not respond. There was no spitting incident directed at me. Hilal Kabasakal and Necmettin Aka were also present at the time of the incident, but since the citizens did not recognize them, the reaction seemed directed at Özcan and me. It is a sad incident, but it is normal for such reactions to occur."
