Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş commented on the message from PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, stating, "Previously, the government's call was 'unconditional and without reservations,' but when we look at the additional sentences, it has been stipulated that certain legal arrangements must be made for the laying down of arms. In other words, it is not unconditional and without reservations; there are conditions involved."
The process that started with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call to İmralı during the group meeting continued yesterday with the reading of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan's call by officials from the DEM Party on live broadcast. After visits and meetings at İmralı, Abdullah Öcalan stated in a letter he wrote in his own handwriting, "All groups must lay down their arms, and the PKK must disband."
A STATEMENT ALSO CAME FROM YAVAŞ
An evaluation regarding the message, which is one of the most talked-about topics not only in Turkey but also in the world, came from Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş. Meeting with young people during the first sahur of Ramadan, Yavaş, when asked about Öcalan's call for the PKK to lay down arms and disband, stated that they needed to see the result of the call to respond.
"THERE IS A CONDITION"
Stating that these have been tried before and failed, Yavaş said, "Previously, the government's call was 'unconditional, without conditions,' but when we look at the additional sentences, it has been stipulated that some legal arrangements must be made for the laying down of arms. So, it is not unconditional, there is a condition. Additionally, he has thrown the ball to the congress, saying, 'Gather the congress, make a decision.' In other words, he has also pulled back a bit. We will wait and see what is there, what is not? Above all, I always say that the path to a solution is through the Parliament. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey will make the decision. Because our country has suffered greatly on this issue. We cannot fall into an optimism that everything will end with such a call. Because there have been calls that have failed before. I prefer to wait and see," he stated.
HE REFERRED TO BINALI YILDIRIM'S WORDS
Continuing his words, Yavaş, who said, "I approach the process cautiously," added: "The reason for this is that when we look at the statements made today by Mr. Binali Yıldırım, it seems that Article 66 could be changed, as if a promise had been made beforehand, and he says, 'The way for the President to be elected indefinitely must be opened.'
