The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, responded to MHP leader Bahçeli, who reacted to the coup statement by saying, "The accusation of coup leader against our esteemed President is truly a moment of mental breakdown," by quoting his own footage. Özel shared a video of Bahçeli's words: "The mindset of the power that suffocates justice is establishing its own law in a way that would not be any different from coup administrations."
After the operation carried out against the İBB on March 19, where Ekrem İmamoğlu and many of his colleagues were detained and arrested, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated that a coup against the will of the people had taken place, saying, "Erdoğan has transformed from a president who relies on the support of the people into a junta leader who targets those who could be his rivals. He no longer has legitimacy; he fears the election and the streets. The will in this hall today is the will that will dismantle that junta. Turkey is bigger than a handful of junta members."
BAHÇELİ: JUNTAS MEANS CHP
Özel's remarks about "junta" ignited a new debate in the public, and following the reactions of many ministers, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli also made a strong statement. Bahçeli said, "The accusation of our esteemed President being the head of a junta is a complete mental breakdown, a lack of intelligence, a poverty of common sense, and the delusions of a miserable person who cannot tolerate the light of truth and national will... To say junta is to say CHP; everyone knows this."
SHARED HIS SPEECH FROM THE GROUP MEETING
CHP leader Özel did not delay in responding to Bahçeli's words. Sharing from his X account, Özel posted a video of Bahçeli's remarks from an old group meeting, where he said, "The mindset of the power that suffocates justice is establishing its own law in a way that will not be inferior to junta administrations."
"BE A COMRADE TO THE NATION, NOT TO THE COUP PLOTTERS"
In the video shared by Özel, Bahçeli states, "With these recent developments, the AK Party has exceeded its limits. The mindset of the power that suffocates justice is establishing its own law in a way that will not be inferior to junta administrations. What a bitter coincidence that a series of corruptions and mistakes that cannot be compared to the experiences of Hitler, Mussolini, and Saddam has been repeated with the AK Party line." Özel addressed Bahçeli with the words, "Be a comrade to the nation, not to the coup plotters! Unite with the people, not with the junta members!"
