While Turkey eagerly awaits snowfall, images coming from Japan have whetted the appetite of snow lovers. The city of Obihiro in the Hokkaido region in the north of the country has experienced the highest snowfall ever recorded.
Japan has received record levels of snowfall while Turkey has been waiting for days for the snow to fall. According to a report by the country's public broadcaster NHK, based on the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the amount of snow that fell in the last 12 hours reached 120 centimeters in the city of Obihiro in the Hokkaido region, and 85 centimeters in the city of Honbetsu.
Authorities stated that the amount of snow in both cities is the highest level ever recorded.
An emergency has been declared in the region due to the snowfall, and citizens have been warned about the storm and blizzard conditions.

Traffic in the Hokkaido region has come to a standstill, and all flights at the Obihiro and Wakkanai airports in the region have been canceled.
Authorities noted that power outages may also occur in the area.
Cold weather is expected to continue in the region.
