The spiritual leader of Catholics, 88-year-old Pope Francis, has been receiving treatment at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, Italy, since February 14. For the first time, the Pope sent an audio message to his followers from the hospital. In the message played during the night prayer held at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, the Pope said, "I sincerely thank everyone praying in the square for my health. May God protect you."
CONDITION STABLE
In a statement made by the Vatican regarding the Pope's health condition, it was noted that the Pope does not have a fever and his blood values are stable.
It was reported that Pope Francis experienced "acute respiratory failure" twice last Monday and that "non-invasive mechanical ventilation" (respiratory support) was resumed to assist his breathing. Pope Francis was admitted to Gemelli Hospital on February 14 after struggling to breathe and was diagnosed with pneumonia.
