Recently, Hezbollah, which officially announced its participation in the war, set the future of a country on fire, as military activities were banned by Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on the same day. The Dahiye area of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, which has been targeted by Israel for days, was also hit by missiles today. While loud explosion sounds are heard from the area, smoke is seen covering the sky.
As the effects of the ongoing war in the Middle East reflect on Lebanon, the Israeli army continues its attacks on the Dahiye region located south of Beirut. Missile strikes were carried out today in the area that has been targeted for days.
ISRAEL ATTACKED WITH MISSILES AGAIN TODAY
Severe explosions occurred in Dahiye, known as one of the areas where Hezbollah is strong, located south of the capital Beirut. After the attacks, thick smoke rising from the region was seen covering the sky, and it was reported that the sounds of explosions were heard from different points in the city.
Eyewitnesses stated that panic ensued in the area after the attacks, that some buildings were damaged, and that a large number of ambulances were dispatched to the scene. It is reported that the Israeli army has increased its attacks on targets in southern Beirut in recent days.
HEZBOLLAH'S MOVE PUT THE COUNTRY IN A DIFFICULT POSITION
On the other hand, after Hezbollah announced its official participation in the war in recent days, political debates in Lebanon flared up. On the same day, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated that military activities conducted outside state control would not be allowed, announcing a ban on Hezbollah's military activities.
Experts indicate that after Hezbollah's direct involvement in the war, Israel has started targeting especially the areas where the organization is effective, and that Dahiye, located south of Beirut, is therefore at the center of the attacks. It is assessed that if the tension in the region continues, Lebanon could be drawn into a larger-scale conflict.
ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON LEBANON
In a statement made by the Israeli army on March 2, it was noted that sirens were activated in the north of the country after it was detected that missiles were fired from Lebanon.
Subsequently, the Israeli army, which announced that it had launched airstrikes across Lebanon and targeted the capital Beirut, decided to expand its ground invasion in Lebanon, where it carried out intense attacks from the air and sea. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that at least 50 people were killed in the airstrikes carried out by Israel on Lebanon.
DAHIYE REGION TARGETED BY ATTACKS
The Dahiye region encompasses densely populated neighborhoods such as Hureyk, Burc el-Baracne, Ğubeyri, and el-Mureyce, located within the borders of the Baabda district. The Dahiye region, where a predominantly Shia Muslim population resides, stands out as a center where Hezbollah is politically and socially strong. Dahiye hosts residential areas, commercial centers, marketplaces, and Palestinian refugee camps Burc el-Baracne and Sabra Shatila.
