The number of people who have lost their lives in the protests that have been ongoing in Iran for 23 days has risen to 3,919, while allegations regarding detained protesters have emerged explosively. It has been claimed that protesters in prisons are forcibly stripped naked and cold water is sprayed on them with hoses in the yard, while it has been stated that some inmates have been injected with substances of unknown content.
The US-based Iran Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) announced that the number of people who lost their lives in protests that began due to economic issues in Iran has risen to 3,919.
ARRESTS NEARLY REACHED 25,000 According to HRANA's report, 24,669 people have been detained as a result of incidents in many parts of the country. In the events that occurred during the protests, 3,919 people lost their lives. HRANA had reported yesterday that the death toll had risen to 3,308.
FORCIBLY STRIPPED NAKED IN PRISON As the protests in Iran continue on their 23rd day, a shocking claim regarding the detained protesters has emerged. According to a source close to the family of one of the detainees who spoke to the Iran International Agency, the protesters held in Iranian prisons reported that they were subjected to mistreatment, including being forcibly stripped naked, exposure to cold, and being injected with unknown substances during their detention.
THEY SPRAYED COLD WATER ON THEM The source reported that a young protester who was detained sent a message from prison stating that he and a few others were subjected to such treatment after their arrest. According to the detainee's statement, prison officials left the detainees naked in the courtyard of the detention facility and kept them outside the building for a long time in winter conditions. Then, the officials sprayed cold water on the detainees using a hose.
UNKNOWN SUBSTANCES INJECTED INTO THEIR BODIES The detainee also stated that the next day, prison officials injected him and a few other inmates with substances of unknown content.
PROTESTS IN IRAN Protests that began on December 28, 2025, due to the significant devaluation of the local currency against foreign currencies and economic issues, initiated by shopkeepers in Tehran's Grand Bazaar, spread to many cities. Following the escalation of protests in Tehran on January 8, the government blocked internet access. Recently, it has been reported that internet access has been partially and limitedly restored.
Although the protests in Iran have subsided, HRANA, based in Virginia, USA, continues to update the death and detention counts, claiming to have verified more cases. Iranian officials have not yet made a statement regarding the total number of deaths or injuries resulting from the protests, but they reported that 3,000 people, alleged to be affiliated with terrorist organizations or to have provoked the events, have been detained. Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated on January 17 that individuals connected to "Israel and the USA caused significant damage and killed several thousand people" during the protests.
