What happened to social media influencer Manjeet Kaur in India was blood-curdling. According to allegations, the 28-year-old Kaur was kidnapped by two acquaintances, tied to a tree, and set on fire. The young woman, who suffered severe burns over most of her body, lost her life after a nearly two-month struggle for survival, and it was revealed that she was 7 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.
The death of social media influencer Manjeet Kaur (28) in India's Punjab state has made headlines across the country. Kaur, who had about 146,000 Instagram followers, was allegedly kidnapped by two acquaintances, attacked, tied to a tree, and set on fire, according to a complaint her mother filed with the police. After fighting for her life for about two months with severe burns, Kaur died on August 26. The autopsy report revealed that the young woman was approximately seven weeks pregnant at the time of her death.
MOTHER DESCRIBES HORRIFYING DETAILS
According to the complaint Kaur's mother, Kanta Devi, filed with the police, the incident occurred on the night of July 3. Allegedly, Kaur was called to a meeting in an area of Chandigarh by two of her acquaintances.
The mother claimed that her daughter was then forcibly placed in a vehicle and taken to a wooded area near Morinda, where she was beaten, tied to a mulberry tree, and set on fire.
It was reported that a person who arrived at the scene later found Kaur in flames and put out the fire by covering her with a blanket.
45 PERCENT OF HER BODY WAS BURNED
Severely injured, Kaur was first taken to a hospital in Morinda. She was then treated at hospitals in Mohali and Chandigarh. Reported to have burns covering 40 to 45 percent of her body, Kaur died on August 26 at PGIMER, where she was receiving treatment. Her cause of death was reported to be an infection that developed following the severe burns.
It was also reported that on August 5, during her treatment, Kaur briefly regained consciousness and wanted to talk about the incident. However, the young woman passed away before she could give a formal statement to the police.
SHE WAS SEVEN WEEKS PREGNANT WHEN SHE DIED
In the autopsy report prepared after the incident, a detail that changed the course of the investigation emerged. It was determined that the 28-year-old Kaur was approximately seven weeks pregnant at the time of her death.
Following the complaint by Kaur's mother, Chandigarh Police launched a kidnapping and murder investigation into two suspects. While police are working to apprehend the suspects, the exact cause of the incident and all the details of the attack have not yet been uncovered.
Kaur had approximately 146,000 followers on Instagram. The influencer, who shared videos accompanied by Punjabi and Haryanvi music, also promoted beauty products.
