House arrest decision for Levent Üzümcü

Theater artist Levent Üzümcü, who was detained after midnight in Balıkesir Burhaniye due to a social media post and brought to Istanbul, was released by the court under judicial control in the form of house arrest, after being referred on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility" with a request for arrest.

Levent Üzümcü, General Art Director of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres (İzBBŞT) and theater actor, announced on his social media account after midnight that he had been detained.

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In the morning hours, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced with a brief notification that Üzümcü had been detained as part of an ongoing investigation, stating: "As part of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; suspect Levent Üzümcü, identified as the user of the X account with the handle @LeventUzumcu, has been detained."

REQUEST FOR ARREST

Üzümcü, who was detained by gendarmerie teams in Burhaniye, Balıkesir, and brought to Istanbul, gave a statement to the prosecutor at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. Following the statement proceedings, Üzümcü was charged with "inciting the public to hatred and hostility" and referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest.

'HOUSE ARREST' DECISION

The judgeship, within the scope of judicial control measures, decided on house arrest and ruled for Üzümcü's release.
