18 PEOPLE DIED AT THE SCENE
According to local official Samuel Aguilar Pala, 18 people died at the scene of the accident involving three vehicles, while 3 others died in the hospital. Many injured individuals were taken under treatment.
TRUCK ATTEMPTED TO OVERTAKE THE MINIBUS
Local media reported that a truck, a passenger bus, and a minibus were involved in the accident. According to a report by La Jornada newspaper, the accident occurred when a cement truck attempted to overtake the minibus. The truck, which crossed into the opposite lane, first collided with the bus and then crashed head-on with a transportation minibus, rolling into a ravine and catching fire.
In footage shared by a local journalist on social media, thick smoke rising from the ravine and a large portion of the roadside barrier being torn off were observed.
