At least 21 people lost their lives in a chain-reaction traffic accident in Mexico when a cement truck attempted to overtake a minibus.

At least 21 people lost their lives in a chain traffic accident that occurred in Mexico. The incident took place on Wednesday morning on the highway between Cuacnopalan and Oaxaca in the state of Puebla.



18 PEOPLE DIED AT THE SCENE



According to local official Samuel Aguilar Pala, 18 people died at the scene of the accident involving three vehicles, while 3 others died in the hospital. Many injured individuals were taken under treatment.



TRUCK ATTEMPTED TO OVERTAKE THE MINIBUS



Local media reported that a truck, a passenger bus, and a minibus were involved in the accident. According to a report by La Jornada newspaper, the accident occurred when a cement truck attempted to overtake the minibus. The truck, which crossed into the opposite lane, first collided with the bus and then crashed head-on with a transportation minibus, rolling into a ravine and catching fire.



In footage shared by a local journalist on social media, thick smoke rising from the ravine and a large portion of the roadside barrier being torn off were observed.
