In an operation conducted against human trafficking, prostitution, and drug-related crimes in Iğdır, 107 foreign women who were rescued were deported. It was learned that 78 of the women were Iranian citizens, while 25 were from Azerbaijan.
As part of the investigation by the Iğdır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; the Iğdır Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch carried out a comprehensive operation against human trafficking, prostitution, and drug-related crimes as a result of three months of work.
9 PEOPLE ARRESTED
It was determined that foreign women were forced to work in entertainment venues outside Iğdır, were coerced into prostitution, and that false documents were provided to foreign individuals whose legal stay had expired. Iğdır KOM Branch Teams conducted an operation on May 24 at 9 entertainment centers, using thermal cameras as well.
Before the operation, 11 suspects were detained, including an individual identified as leaking information. In the operation, 2 suspects were released by the police, and 1 suspect was released by the prosecutor's office, while 9 individuals brought to court were arrested.
78 OF THE WOMEN ARE IRANIAN CITIZENS
As part of the operation, deportation procedures were completed for a total of 107 women, including 25 Azerbaijani, 78 Iranian, 1 Kyrgyz, and 3 Uzbek citizens, who were found to be forced into prostitution.
STATEMENT FROM THE IĞDIR GOVERNORATE
The Iğdır Governorate, which made a written statement regarding the operation, said, "This operation is one of the largest organized crime operations ever conducted in Iğdır province in terms of personnel numbers, the density of targeted addresses, the level of simultaneity, and the diversity of the criminal elements uncovered."
In Iğdır, 10 suspects detained for crimes of prostitution, bribery, and human trafficking were transferred to the courthouse after completing their procedures at the police station. Of the 10 suspects, 9 were arrested by the court they were brought before, while one suspect was released under judicial control.
