The exorbitant price scheme experienced by a female tourist in a taxi in Antalya has become a hot topic in Turkey after a video was shared on social media. The cunning taxi driver tried to charge tourists 50 euros for just a 4-minute distance, using the excuse of "no change," but his trick was foiled within seconds when Turkish citizens intervened upon noticing the situation.
A foreign female tourist vacationing in Antalya exposed a fraud attempt she experienced in a taxi she boarded by sharing a video on her social media account. The tourist couple, who took a taxi from their hotel to go to a themed park, faced the taxi driver's trick for a distance of only 4 minutes.
"15 EURO" HE SAID, REFUSED TO GIVE CHANGE
According to the young woman's account, at the start of the journey, the taxi driver demanded 15 euros from them. When they reached their destination, the tourist's husband handed the driver this money because they only had a 50-euro banknote they had just withdrawn from the hotel ATM. However, the taxi driver refused to give change, claiming "I don't have change," and tried to take the entire 50 euros for the 4-minute trip.
THE TRUTH CAME OUT WHEN TURKISH CITIZENS INTERVENED
The couple, trying to find change from nearby shops to get their change, encountered two Turkish citizens who were depositing money at an ATM. The tourists explained the situation to these people and received an unexpected help. When the Turkish citizens went to the taxi driver and started speaking Turkish, the driver, caught in a corner, had his lie exposed within seconds.
CURRENCY AND TURKISH LIRA POURED OUT OF HIS POCKET
The tourist woman expressed her astonishment in the video with these words: "When the man spoke to the taxi driver, lo and behold, the driver reached into his pocket and pulled out a bunch of change full of euros, Turkish lira, and dollars."
The taxi driver, whose lie was exposed, ultimately had to take the 50 euros and give back the tourist's rightful 35 euros in change.
This video shared on social media received thousands of comments and sparked massive reactions in a short time.
IT BROUGHT TO MIND THE SCANDAL INVOLVING TWITCH STREAMER AUGER
This is not the first time such allegations of exorbitant prices and fraud against tourists in taxis in Turkey have emerged. Recently, famous US Twitch streamer Auger was also in the spotlight for a similar scandal after the Travis Scott concert held in Istanbul. Auger, who took a taxi to his hotel while live streaming, claimed that over 7,000 lira was charged from his card for a distance that should normally cost 200-300 lira, sparking days of debate.
These consecutive incidents have once again raised calls for increased taxi inspections.
