Panic-filled moments occurred in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Cappadocia during the night. One of the fairy chimneys suddenly collapsed. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the incident. Cappadocia Area President Cem Aslanbay stated, "Rockfall occurred on the southern face due to temperature differences caused by climate change and the freeze-thaw effect."

Upon notification, gendarmerie, disaster and emergency management authority (AFAD), and officials from the Cappadocia Area Directorate were dispatched to the region. While the gendarmerie and AFAD teams investigated whether anyone was under the fallen rock, the Cappadocia Area Directorate also began efforts to remove the fallen rock. The incident was captured second by second on security cameras.

Cappadocia Area Director Cem Aslanbay made the following statements regarding the causes of the damage to the fairy chimney: "There are ancient rock formations at the foot of the collapsed fairy chimney. Due to temperature differences caused by climate change and the freeze-thaw effect, rock detachment occurred on the southern face. This resulted in partial damage."

On the other hand, it was stated that using heavy machinery for the cleaning of the fallen rock pieces could damage other fairy chimneys in the area. The teams of the Cappadocia Area Directorate have begun to prepare a special intervention plan for the collapsed fairy chimney.
