34-year-old Julián Andrés Martínez experienced a tragic accident at a festival held in Aguazul, Colombia. A strong wind dragged the hot air balloon, which had people inside, down to the ground. Martínez grabbed a rope attached to the balloon while trying to rescue those trapped inside. Unfortunately, during this rescue attempt, Martínez was thrown about 5 meters into the air and then fell. He was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Local authorities stated that Martínez was trying to help in a moment of panic, but the situation got out of control. Two other people also sustained burn injuries in the accident. It was learned that Martínez was engaged and was about to get married. His friends, who were paragliding pilots, paid their respects by leaving wings at the accident site. Authorities announced that an investigation has been launched to identify those responsible for the incident and that it is not appropriate to make accusations at this time.
