In statements regarding the health system, Istanbul Provincial Health Director Assoc. Dr. Abdullah Emre Güner said, "In the first 3 months of 2025, there were 40 million 913 thousand examinations, 78% of which were in public hospitals. We have encountered the highest demand for examinations in the fields of internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, ophthalmology, and orthopedics, achieving an approximately 16% increase in examinations in 2025. In Istanbul, 170 thousand radiology imaging is performed every day; these are actually numbers not seen in the world, and as the Ministry of Health, we are providing a very significant service. Our goal is to ensure that all beds in Istanbul are converted into qualified beds and made resilient enough to provide health services even in the event of a possible earthquake," he said.

Istanbul Provincial Health Director Assoc. Dr. Abdullah Emre Güner met with members of the press at a breakfast in a restaurant in Bakırköy. During the program, Assoc. Dr. Güner shared information and data about Istanbul's health system and chatted with the press members.

ISTANBULITES HAVE VISITED HOSPITALS AN AVERAGE OF 12 TIMES IN 2024

Istanbul Provincial Health Director Assoc. Dr. Abdullah Emre Güner stated that health services are provided to citizens through a total of 215 hospitals, including 53 public, 144 private, 6 public university hospitals, and 12 foundation university hospitals in Istanbul. Assoc. Dr. Güner used the following expressions: "With the number of family medicine units exceeding 4,900, our primary healthcare services continue uninterrupted. One of our main problems was; we are trying to provide our citizens with high-level, quality, and accessible health services. Our citizens have applied to health institutions an average of 12 times in 2024.

"40 MILLION EXAMINATIONS IN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS"

In the first 3 months of 2025, there were 40 million 913 thousand examinations, and we understand that approximately 3 visits per person to health institutions occurred in the first quarter. We are talking about a system that produces about 40% of the medical service points generated in Turkey and has reached a capacity of more than 650 thousand examinations per day, providing health services to citizens. Of this, 78% has been carried out in public hospitals as examinations. We have encountered the highest demand for examinations in the fields of internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, ophthalmology, and orthopedics.

We have achieved an approximately 16% increase in examinations in 2025 compared to the same period. There has been a 40% decrease in the number of people leaving requests related to access to the MHRS. These are analyzed daily by us. In fact, when the preference is set aside in Istanbul, you can reach an appointment on the 16th day. We are experiencing a problem in demand management due to the desire to reach the hospital they are accustomed to. We hope to overcome this as soon as possible."

"170 THOUSAND RADIOLOGY IMAGING IS PERFORMED EVERY DAY"

Assoc. Dr. Güner, who stated that as the number of examinations increases, there is also an increase in other procedures, continued his words as follows: "As the number of examinations increases, the number of surgeries is also increasing day by day. In Istanbul, 9,624 surgeries are performed daily. 62% of the total surgeries are performed by the public. In Istanbul, 170 thousand radiology imaging is performed every day. These are actually numbers not seen in the world, and when you consider that such easy access to health services is provided for free, we are providing a very significant service as the Ministry of Health in Istanbul.

We do not want to leave even a single person who has not visited a family physician or does not know their family physician because in Istanbul, you have the opportunity to reach a family physician within an average of 7 minutes on foot. Citizens no longer need to go to Kartal Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital to give blood. In 2025, we conducted more than 120 thousand cancer screenings.

The reconstruction of Sample Hospital, Siyami Ersek, and Süreyyepaşa Hospitals is currently planned. The construction of Sancaktepe City Hospital, one of Turkey's largest hospitals on the Anatolian side, which is a twin of our Çam and Sakura City Hospital, is currently ongoing, and 5 thousand beds are also under construction. Our Esenyurt Hospital will open soon."
