A 5-meter crocodile in a zoo in the Philippines severely injured a 29-year-old tourist who mistakenly thought it was fake and entered its cage.

The incident occurred at Kabug Mangrov Park in the Zamboanga Sibugay region in southern Philippines. The unnamed tourist jumped over the fence and entered shallow water, thinking the crocodile was a plastic model, and wanted to take a selfie.

However, a female crocodile named Lalay immediately attacked the visitor who entered the water. In the terrifying scene witnessed by other visitors, the crocodile grabbed the tourist's arm in its mouth and would not let go.

In chilling footage, the crocodile is seen holding the tourist's arm and rolling in the water using a technique known as the "death roll." This method is known as a deadly tactic used by crocodiles to dismember their prey.

During the horrifying moments that lasted about half an hour, the crocodile's keeper risked his own life by entering the cage. The keeper struck Lalay on the head with a hard object to force the animal to open its mouth, helping to rescue the tourist.

In footage taken after the incident, first aid teams are seen trying to bandage the tourist's mangled arm and thigh. The severely injured tourist was taken to the hospital and received more than 50 stitches on his body.

Local police official Joel Sajolga explained, "The tourist saw the crocodile while walking in the park but thought it was a plastic statue. When he jumped over the fence and entered the cage, the crocodile attacked." The police emphasized that the tourist's dangerous behavior put both his life and the lives of others at risk.

Canete Jie, who witnessed the incident, said, "I didn't understand why he did something so dangerous, but thankfully he survived. His leg is not broken, but he has deep wounds on his arm and leg."

This incident once again highlighted the importance of following safety rules in zoos and natural habitats.
