HE MANAGED TO RECEIVE 53.6% OF THE VOTES
According to preliminary results, the current President Paul Biya won the presidential elections held on October 12 in Cameroon. According to the preliminary results shared by the National Vote Counting Commission, Biya managed to receive 53.6% of the votes.
His closest rival, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, received 35.1% of the votes, while other candidates Cabral Libii reached 3.41% and Bello Bouba Maigari 2.45%. The National Vote Counting Commission, consisting of 33 members, reported that the results are based on the minutes from 58 regional commissions across the country.
"THE FREEDOM OF THE PEOPLE IS NOT UP FOR NEGOTIATION"
Opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary claimed in a statement on his social media account that he won the election with 54.8% of the votes, stating, "The people can now celebrate their victory because we have won. The freedom of the people is not up for negotiation." The Constitutional Council will announce the final election results tomorrow at 10:30 local time.
