In the trial of Serdar Karamus, who killed his wife Gözde Karamus during their divorce proceedings and attempted suicide, the prosecution has presented its opinion on the case. While a life sentence with aggravated circumstances is being sought for the defendant, it was also stated that no reduction in sentence should be applied due to the fact that 5 out of the 6 bullets found in Gözde's body were lethal.
On December 21, 2023, in Sedat Kahraman Park in the Karşıyaka district of İzmir, Serdar Karamus, who was in the process of divorce, blocked the way of his wife Gözde Karamus and fired 4 shots with a gun, hitting his wife in the back and head.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE WITH THE SAME GUN
Karamus then pressed the same gun against his chin and pulled the trigger once more. 29-year-old Gözde Karamus died, while the injured Serdar Karamus was taken into custody and arrested after treatment.
AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT REQUESTED
With the indictment prepared by the Karşıyaka Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a case was opened against Karamus for 'intentional murder of his wife' with a request for aggravated life imprisonment and for 'purchasing, carrying, or possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition' with a request for imprisonment of 1 to 3 years.
COMPETENCY REPORT CONFIRMED
The trial of Serdar Karamus continued today at the Karşıyaka 2nd High Criminal Court. In the hearing, in addition to the detained defendant Serdar Karamus, Gözde Karamus's mother Gülhan Madi, father Yüksel Madi, members of the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, and the parties' lawyers were present. The presiding judge stated that the report confirming Serdar Karamus's full legal competency had arrived and was added to the file.
PROSECUTOR PRESENTED HIS OPINION
In the hearing, the prosecution presented its opinion on the merits. The prosecutor requested a sentence for Serdar Karamus for 'intentional murder of his wife' and 'purchasing, carrying, or possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition', stating that 5 of the 6 bullets in Gözde's body were lethal and that no reduction should be made. In his defense regarding the opinion on the merits, the defendant Serdar Karamus expressed regret. The defendant's lawyer requested time to prepare a defense regarding the opinion on the merits. The panel, which accepted the defendant's lawyer's request for time, decided to continue the defendant's detention and adjourned the hearing to July 29.
